Lyza and I went to Central Oregon this past weekend and we were testing out her new camera. While she was taking shots with the new one, I used her old Lumix point-and-shoot to see what I could capture. I had my telescope with its motor driven mount, so I piggy-backed the Lumix on it and captured wide field shots like this one. Not to bad for a point-and-shoot! This is the image exactly as it came off of the camera -- I haven't figured out how to improve astrophotography shots with post-processing yet. This is a 60 second exposure.

With 14" of snow over the past few days and temperatures staying solidly in the 20s, I had to see what the conditions were like on our local (extinct volcano) mountain.

The place was alive with dozens of people enjoying all types of snow sports: sledding, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, and even a few people on telemark gear. The snow was light powder, and deep enough to cover the rocks and firepits and whatever other city park facilities that are less than 12".

I hiked up, and rode down twice -- once on the open eastern slope, and the second time under the pine trees on the north side. Both runs were as good as I could hope to get, within city limits!
